It looks as though Sunderland are nearing their first signing of deadline day. But as ever, fans won’t celebrate anything until it’s announced.

Sunderland fans have been in this position all too often; rumoured to be signing a player, only for him to move elsewhere.

But it certainly looks like Kristjaan Speakman is working hard behind the scenes to give Regis Le Bris a new Sunderland striker which he so desperately wants.

Several have been linked in the build up to deadline day, including Liverpool striker Jayden Danns.

Sunderland tipped to sign Liverpool’s Jayden Danns

Danns has been linked with Sunderland and a number of other Championship clubs. But alarmingly, it was revealed on Sunday night that Hull City were confident of signing Danns.

Now though, The Athletic journalist James Pearce has revealed on X that teen striker Danns is ‘expected to join’ Sunderland on loan on deadline day.

Liverpool-born Danns has risen through the youth ranks at Anfield and has since made three Premier League appearances for the club, including one this season.

One Sunderland striker pursuit is over

Sunderland now look like they’re focussing on Danns after a month of being linked with strikers, but not actually signing any new ones, other than the permanent signing of Wilson Isidor.

And just as Danns’ links to the Stadium of Light heat up, it’s been revealed that Sunderland target Matija Frigan won’t be leaving Westerlo in this January transfer window.

It was previously claimed that Sunderland were eyeing a £10million loan-to-buy deal for the Croatian U21, but Westerlo have since loaned out two players and they don’t want to lose anymore.
