Fabrizio Romano will be as busy as anyone on deadline day. Sunderland fans may be checking his feeds for any news on Black Cats deals.

Sunderland enter deadline day with a lot on their plate. Brighton are trying to sign Tommy Watson but the Black Cats have business of their own to conduct.

Kristjaan Speakman is trying to sign an attacker at Sunderland and new names keep on being linked, whilst linked names continue to join other clubs.

One name linked, and who is yet to move clubs, is Southampton’s Cameron Archer.

Sunderland handed possible Cameron Archer boost

Sunderland are rivalling Leeds for Archer who’s said to be open to leaving St Mary’s before the 11pm transfer deadline, despite having only joined Southampton from Aston Villa in a £15million deal last summer.

Going into deadline day, it was understood that Southampton signing new players would allow Archer to leave, with the Saints previously reluctant to offload the 23-year-old.

Now, that’s exactly hat’s happened. Journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed on X that Southampton are signing Royal Antwerp forward Victor Udoh.

Cameron Archer is the perfect Tommy Watson replacement

It’s reported that Sunderland want to sign a replacement for Watson should he leave for Brighton, and Archer would be the perfect man.

Given his experience and proven track record in the Championship, he’d arguably be an upgrade on Watson who’s scored twice in 10 league outings this season.

There’s likely a lot more teams than just Sunderland and Leeds interested in Archer, though, so a Black Cats deal for the former Villa man seems like an ambitious one right now.

That’s especially true with Leeds interested – they’ve been wanting to sign Archer for a long time now, and Leeds sitting in 1st place of the Championship table could be a decisive factor for Archer.
