Regis Le Bris says it how it is. The Sunderland manager has earned praise for being a straight-talker and he’s made his wishes for the final days of the January transfer window clear.
Regis Le Bris is earning praise for just about everything he does at Sunderland. But promotion from the Championship this season may rest solely on what business the Black Cats can do before the February 3rd deadline.
So far, Sunderland have signed Enzo Le Fee on loan from Roma. But Kristjaan Speakman is yet to follow that up with anther signing, despite links to a number of attacking players.
It’s clear that Sunderland are in need of a new attacker. And speaking recently, Le Bris said he wants a new attacking player, either a winger or a striker.
Le Bris told the press: “Probably we still need some more vertical threats, players who could run in behind. This could be a striker but also a winger, maybe a versatile player.
“This is still very much in our mind, but we will see what comes in these next weeks. But it is not necessarily about a number nine.”

Sunderland tracking multiple attacking targets ahead of deadline day
Sunderland fans will be hoping for a busy deadline day so that Le Bris can get some new bodies through the door, and bolster in time for the real crunch matches of the Championship campaign. And an emerging claim from Chronicle Live is good news on the that front.
They write that Sunderland are ‘understood to be tracking a number of striker targets’ ahead of deadline day and that the Black Cats ‘hope to bring in additional firepower’.
Going into deadline day, there are a number of players known to be of interest to Speakman and Sunderland.

The five attacking players linked with Sunderland right now
There are five attackers linked with Sunderland ahead of deadline day, with some looking like more possible signings than others. Perhaps the most unlikely to Semih Kilicsoy who’s also wanted by Newcastle United, Everton, and Aston Villa, and valued at £16million.
Meanwhile, Ajax striker Chuba Akpom and Rangers outcast Rabbi Matondo are both tipped to leave before deadline day, so they could be realistic signings for the Black Cats.
Preston striker Emil Riis is linked with Sunderland and out of contract in the summer, but little has been sad about him in the last few days, likewise Matija Frigan.
Sunderland were strongly linked with Frigan earlier in the month but news of his potential move to the Stadium of Light has gone completely cold.
