Sunderland’s busy transfer window is far from over as Kristjaan Speakman has just made a £10 million offer for one Leicester City player.
So much has already happened on Wearside today, from Liverpool wonderkid Jayden Danns’ imminent loan to Tommy Watson’s exit to Brighton.
It now seems that more twists and turns are on the way as the Black Cats are targeting a late move for another attacking midfield option.
Having already signed Enzo Le Fee and decided to let Adil Aouchiche leave on loan to Portsmouth in this window, this is not an area that anyone thought Sunderland were keen to strengthen.

Sunderland make £10m Kasey McAteer transfer offer
Transfer expert David Ornstein is reporting that Sunderland have lodged a £10m bid to sign Leicester midfielder Kasey McAteer.
Even though this would make him one of the Black Cats’ most expensive transfers of all time, the Foxes have declined the offer.
But the Wearside club are not giving up hope of landing the midfielder before the deadline closes, as Ornstein says that they will return with an improved bid.
The previous bid was in the form of a loan with an obligation to buy for £8m plus £2m in add-ons, so perhaps Sunderland will opt for £10m guaranteed – only time will tell. Either way, it is believed Leicester are already looking for a replacement, so the Foxes clearly expect McAteer to move on.
It’s an incredible approach considering McAteer is by no means one of Leicester’s better players. If the deal does go through, many Black Cats fans will speculate whether the money could have been better spent elsewhere.

Kasey McAteer would be a luxury signing for Sunderland – they don’t need him
Of all the potential deals Sunderland could do on deadline day, we did not expect to see this one come up, but here we are.
It’s a real surprise as Sunderland were not known to be looking for a right winger, with a left-sided player thought to be the priority — though, McAteer’s versatility could well come in handy.
The fact that Sunderland are even making offers like this is a real signal of intent for the Mackems when it comes to the promotion race, and shows that Regis Le Bris is obviously keen to get some real squad depth before the window closes.
While McAteer has struggled in the Premier League this season, he had decent returns in Leicester’s promotion-winning campaign of 2023/24 when he scored six goals in 23 Championship games.
