Sunderland look set for a deadline day departure with Tommy Watson on his way to Brighton, despite the 18-year-old only breaking through this season.
Tommy Watson had to be patient for his chance at Sunderland. But he got a run of games under Regis Le Bris this season, and now he’s on his way to the Premier League.
Reports state that Watson is heading to Brighton to see through his deadline day move from Sunderland, who are working on some new signings of their own.
It’s claimed that Sunderland are set to sign Jayden Danns on loan from Liverpool, with the striker set for a medical on Wearside.

How much Brighton are paying for Sunderland’s Tommy Watson
During the summer, Brighton had a £2 million bid rejected for Watson. This time round, it’s understood that the Seagulls are offering a lot more than that.
Reports have suggested that Sunderland have rejected a bid for Watson worth around £12m. But it was then revealed that Sunderland and Brighton were discussing a deal worth an initial £8.5million with add-ons.
Fabrizio Romano has since weighed in, revealing that the deal is now off and that the total package would’ve amounted to an impressive £13million for Sunderland.
Who will Sunderland sign to replace Tommy Watson?
Amid Watson’s links to Brighton, it’s also been revealed that Sunderland want Simon Adingra on loan from the Seagulls, in return.
It would be a real coup for Sunderland who’d arguably be getting an upgrade on Watson, albeit for just half a season.
Meanwhile, Brighton are tipped to recall Facundo Buonanotte from Leicester City in news that seems very conveniently timed from a Sunderland perspective.
Though he’s wanted by Chelsea and so the Argentine being sent on loan to Sunderland seems quit unlikely as things stand.
Watson to Brighton certainly looks like it’s set to go through, though, which may be best for all given Watson’s contract expiring in 2026.
