Almost out of nowhere, reports have emerged claiming that Sunderland have tried to sign a Dynamo Kyiv player. But the Black Cats have already been told no.
Sunderland are full of surprises in the transfer market, specifically Kristjaan Speakman who keeps on plucking unknow gems out of Europe.
Some have worked and other haven’t. An example of the latter is Nazariy Rusyn who joined for £2.5million in 2023 but has this month been sent out on loan to Hajduk Split.
But Rusyn’s shortcomings haven’t stopped Speakman from keeping an eye on the Ukrainian Premier League, it seems.

Sunderland bid rejected for Dynamo Kyiv winger Nazar Voloshyn
Per an emerging report from Ukrainian outlet TaToTake on Telegram, Sunderland submitted a loan-to-buy offer for Dynamo Kyiv’s 21-year-old winger Nazar Voloshyn on the day before deadline day.
The move would’ve seen Voloshyn become a permanent Sunderland player in the event of promotion this season, but TaToTake say that Kyiv ‘were not satisfied with the offer’ and that Voloshyn will remain with Dynamo for the remainder of he season.
Voloshyn has failed to score in 20 games in the UPL and the Europa League for Kyiv this season, although he has three assists in 14 league matches.

Have Sunderland not learned from their Nazariy Rusyn lesson?
Rusyn’s transfer should be a clear indicator for Sunderland going forward, especially when signing players from European leagues not known for their brimming quality.
For Rusyn, moving so far form home and not speaking the language was an issue, and it’d likely be an issue for Voloshyn or any other player arriving from Ukraine.
On top of that, Voloshyn doesn’t exactly boast impressive stats this season, though Speakman and co will have done their homework and have been impressed nonetheless.
Maybe this is a deal to watch out for in the summer.
