Sunderland look set to lose Tommy Watson on deadline day. But it’s not all doom and gloom for the Black Cats who may sign an upgrade on the teenager.

Tommy Watson leaving Sunderland will certainly come as a blow. But the situation is such: Watson is out of contract in 2026 and it seems like the Black Cats are getting a good deal.

It’s reported that Brighton are paying an initial £8.5million for Watson and add-ons look set to take that figure well beyond £10million in years to come.

Sunderland in talks with Brighton’s Simon Adingra

Amid Watson’s links to Brighton, it’s been revealed that Sunderland want Simon Adingra on loan in return, as a direct replacement for Watson. And the Black Cats are in talks with the 23-year-old.

Journalist Sam Cohen has revealed on X that ‘talks are ongoing for Simon Adingra to join Sunderland’, but that a deal still has a way to go before completion.

Sunderland looking to complete first deadline day signing

Adingra to Sunderland looks as though it’ll be announced very close to the 11pm deadline, should it go through at all.

Watson’s move still needs finalising but it look like everything is moving forward for Regis Le Bris’ side right now.

But before either Watson or Adingra’s deal is confirmed, it looks like Sunderland will complete the signing of Jayden Danns on loan from Liverpool.

That move looks like it’s progressed very quickly and it’ll come as a huge relief for Sunderland who desperately needed a striker signing going into deadline day.

And if Adingra can arrive in place of Watson then it’ll be another exciting loan signing ahead of the business end of the season.
