Sunderland have been working on a deal to sign Tom Cannon from Leicester City.
Sunderland have had Tom Cannon on their radars for a long time now.
Last summer, Sunderland wanted to sign Cannon on loan from Everton, before Leicester City tabled an £8million bid for his permanent signing.
Cannon arrived at the King Power Stadium with a back injury which limited him to just 13 Championship outing for the Foxes last time round.
Since, Sunderland have made a £5million bid for Cannon, who also has strong interest from the likes of Hull City, Norwich City, and Sheffield United.
Foxes boss Steve Cooper says that Cannon could leave on deadline day, but only if it’s on Leicester City’s terms.

Sunderland out of Tom Cannon race
Now though, journalist Michael Graham has revealed that Sunderland are all but out of the race to sign Cannon from Leicester City.
Graham revealed on X that, ‘barring a major U-turn on deadline day, Sunderland are out of the Tom Cannon race’.
Sunderland’s bid for the 21-year-old has been knocked back with Leicester City keen to recoup the £8million they paid for Cannon last summer.
This news come amid news that Sunderland target Roko Simic is nearing a move to Cardiff City, whilst Alexandre Mendy is set to stay at Caen.
Do Sunderland still need another striker
Kristjaan Speakman signed Wilson Isidor on loan from Zenit last week, and so Sunderland do have their striker signing this summer.
But with Eliezer Mayenda the only other trusted no.9 right now, another striker signing seems necessary if Regis Le Bris is to have enough quality and depth to last him until January.
Expect Sunderland to have a few names on their radar still, with deadline day bound to hectic at the Stadium of Light.
However, it can be assumed that Cannon won’t be the next striker arriving on Wearside.
