Sunderland finally got their hands on a striker on Friday as they completed the signing of Wilson Isidor.

The Frenchman has joined on loan from Russian giants Zenit, with the Black Cats holding an option to buy the forward.

Sunderland were desperate for a striker after their failures in the previous campaign. This need was heightened on Thursday night after Ipswich had a bid accepted for Jack Clarke

However, Isidor has now become the latest signing at the Stadium of Light aiming to solve the club’s goalscoring issues once and for all.

Thankfully, there is one big statistic that indicates that the Frenchman will have no trouble hitting the back of the net this season.

Isidor has been playing in Russia since 2022. First signing for Lokomotiv Moscow, he netted 16 times in the league in 35 games before earning a loan move to Zenit last season.

After scoring another two goals, his transfer became permanent in the summer. Before his move to Sunderland, Isidor had already opened his account for the 2024/25 campaign, adding another goal to his collection.

Combined, Isidor has netted 19 goals in the Russian Premier League which is highly impressive given his xG.

The Frenchman has only managed to achieve an 11.9 xG during his time in the Russian top flight. This means that the striker has scored around seven more goals than he should have during this three-year period.

For Sunderland, this could be extremely beneficial as if Isidor is given a chance, he will likely put the ball into the back of the net.

Wilson Isidor could finally solve Sunderland’s goalscoring issues

Despite Sunderland’s rapid decline in form last season, their defence remained fairly solid.

It was mainly the Black Cats’ attack that was letting the side down, especially when Clarke picked up an injury.

Therefore, bringing in reinforcements up top was crucial and Sunderland has now finally achieved this.

With the possibility of Alexandre Mendy also making his way to the Stadium of Light before the transfer window shuts, Regis Le Bris has done plenty to ensure this issue is finally resolved.
