Sunderland are expected to attempt to poach Tom Cannon from their rivals Middlesbrough and Preston who are both keen on the striker.
Sunderland‘s search for a striker is set to seen them challenge Championship rivals Middlesbrough and Preston for the signature of a coveted forward according to Alan Nixon.
Tom Cannon of Everton is attracting a substantial level of Championship interest as it has became apparent he won’t be getting game time at the Toffees.
Sunderland have therefore lined up the 20-year-old as the replacement to the potentially outgoing Ross Stewart.
The 27-year-old Scot’s departure currently hinges on Southampton overlooking his current injury and signing him anyway.
This seems likely, given the Saints have submitted multiple bids already and are awaiting Sunderland’s response on the latest bid.

What Tom Cannon would give Sunderland
Cannon fits the bill for Sunderland in terms of his profile, with the 20-year-old being an exciting young talent.
This is the transfer ethos that the Black Cats have adopted over the last few windows.
Cannon is a Ireland under 20 international, and has made one Premier League appearance for Everton already this season.
Cannon has scored goals at every level, with 51 goals for Everton at under 18 and under 21 levels.
He has also proven himself in the Championship, with eight goals in 21 games for Preston last season which explains why they are keen on taking him back.
It is a three way race to conclude this move which seems inevitable to happen, we don’t see any option better however for the youngster than Sunderland.
Here he would be given the chance to play regularly from the go, much like Jobe Bellingham has in midfield.
