Among their niggling injury issues, there is some light at the end of the tunnel for Sunderland as one player could be back sooner than expected.
Sunderland were just starting to get key players back from injury, with the likes of Romaine Mundle, Tommy Watson, and Alan Browne all returning after months on the sidelines.
Those returns were supposed to be the boost Regis Le Bris’ side needed heading into the final run-in this season. But, that would be too simple, and just as players come back, more are now heading to the treatment table.
Sunderland were hit with a triple injury blow last week, with Enzo Le Fee, Dan Ballard, and Jayden Danns all expected to be out for months. But there is some good news on that front now.

Jayden Danns could be back in training by April
Danns arrived at Sunderland with an injury, but the back issue discovered during his medical was not deemed severe enough to halt the move from Liverpool.
Fans described the transfer as ‘pointless’ at the time, and they were seemingly proven right when Danns’ initial two-week absence evolved into a potentially season-ending issue last week.
But, the latest from Alan Nixon on Patreon suggests we may still get to see Danns in the red and white of Sunderland before the season is over.
Apparently, Sunderland are hopeful they can get the young striker back in training by April, with Danns just waiting on the all-clear to resume his duties on Wearside.
Danns has been back at Liverpool for rehabilitation, but he may well get his chance to shine in the Championship sooner than expected.

Can Jayden Danns make a difference in Sunderland’s play-off push?
With the Championship play-off dates confirmed, and Sunderland almost certain to be involved in that
When we spoke to Liverpool expert James Brooke, he told us Danns is a ‘clever’ and exciting striker who should be able to contribute plenty of goals to Sunderland once he gets going.
Of course, the Black Cats have the prolific Wilson Isidor to lean on in that respect, while Eliezer Mayenda continues to contribute in front of goal regularly. But, having a third striker to call upon could be invaluable as Sunderland look for any way to win on the path to Wembley.
| Player | Goals |
| Wilson Isidor | 12 |
| Eliezer Mayenda | 6 |
| Chris Rigg | 4 |
| Jobe Bellingham | 4 |
| Romaine Mundle | 4 |
If they can get Danns back for the last three or four games of the league campaign before heading into the play-offs, he could genuinely be the difference between promotion and disappointment.
