The good news is, Sunderland have confirmed the signing of Jayden Danns from Liverpool on loan. But, Black Cats fans are frustrated by one major issue that’s now cropped up with the transfer.
A busy deadline day saw Sunderland end up with one more signing to add to Enzo Le Fee and Wilson Isidor, who made his loan stay on Wearside a permanent one as part of a £5m deal.
The Black Cats were eager to bring in another striker before the deadline passed, and while a number of targets were missed, Jayden Danns’ temporary switch to the Stadium of Light went without a hitch.
Or at least, that’s what we thought, but with Danns’ official announcement came a little bit of bad news, too.

Sunderland fans are frustrated by Jayden Danns injury
Shortly after announcing the signing on Twitter/X, the club revealed Danns would be out of action for an unknown period of time due to a back injury that was spotted during his medical.
Among the replies to the news, Black Cats fans voiced their disappointment and frustration that yet another new Sunderland signing had arrived with a fitness issue.
One supporter wrote: “Reading between the lines due to no timescale given, this seems really pointless. Going back to Liverpool I’d expect he misses half our remaining games plus getting back match fit and gelling with the team etc. Would have made more sense to pull out and use Trey and Abdullahi surely?”
Another replied, “Outstanding work, we’ve signed another injured player on loan. Well done, Sunderland,” while Michael Graham added, “Assume Danns’ injury can’t be serious, but it’s frustrating to keep signing injured players.”
One fan tried to figure out how the move is worthwhile, posting: “So we have agreed to take a player who is injured on a four month loan, what benefit is that to us or the player? Unless it’s agreed that we can have a season long loan next season?”
Another said: “There’s no way we’ve waited three weeks to make our second signing and he’s injured.”
However, one fan tried to look at the positives, adding: “This is more on Liverpool than anything about us. Doubt Kristjaan Speakman knew there was a problem, and if so, I don’t think we would’ve restricted our options and waste time for a player that would barely feature.”

Jayden Danns can’t be injured for long, and he’ll be worth the wait
As a lot of the fans have pointed out, surely this move would not have gone through if Danns was out for a significant period of time, so Sunderland must know what they are doing and will likely expect him back at some point this month.
For now, it’s not that big an issue, really. Wilson Isidor is in great form, Eliezer Mayenda is there to support, too, and as long as they both stay fit, the Sunderland squad will be in a good place.
Based on comments from Jurgen Klopp on Danns and how special he can be, Mackems can look forward to seeing a really talented young player in action very soon. And, based on what we gleaned about Danns from Liverpool expert James Brooke, he will be worth the wait.
