Three key Sunderland players are set for a spell out of the side after picking up injuries recently.

Sunderland’s recent defeat to Hull City saw Regis Le Bris making the surprising decision to hook Frenchman Enzo Le Fee at the interval.

Whilst many saw it as a tactical decision by the Sunderland boss, especially with his replacement Romaine Mundle offering much more dynamism down the left flank, it now appears to have been an enforced change made by Le Bris.

It has now been revealed just how long the blockbuster January signing could be on the sidelines, and it makes grim viewing for Sunderland fans, especially after the recent run of form, and he has been joined in the injury room by two fellow teammates, one of which looks set to be out for the entire campaign.

Sunderland trio Enzo le Fee, Dan Ballard, and Jayden Danns handed injury blow as one set for season out

During the 1-0 defeat to Hull City at the Stadium of Light, Le Fee and Dan Ballard were both substituted during the game and, per Roker Report, they look set to be on the sidelines for six and eight weeks respectively.

The Frenchman’s return date looks to be near the start of April, meaning that he could be out for more than six games.

To make matters worse, fellow January signing Jayden Danns, who signed from Liverpool on deadline day, and is yet to notch a single minute for the Black Cats, may potentially not even be handed a chance to play in red & white before the end of the season, with the striker reportedly likely to be out for the rest of the 2024/25 campaign.

Black Cats injury woes have undone Kristjaan Speakman progress

Looking at Sunderland’s January transfer dealings, they worked shrewdly by not bringing in excessive quantity, but rather targeting significant areas needed to improve, as seen by the arrivals of Le Fee and Danns.

However, this recent injury update seems to have undone all that, especially in the striker department. Sunderland’s main concern in the January transfer window was looking to bring in a striker, and they were linked with 12 names before landing on Danns in the dying hours of deadline day.

Ultimately, through no fault of the Black Cats, two key signings are now out, but it does ask the question over the fact that Kristjaan Speakman should have prioritised depth in the window, especially since Le Bris’ concerns surrounding squad fitness.
