Sunderland’s deadline day business consisted of the loan signing of Jayden Danns, but he arrived with an injury that has frustrated some fans.
After a month of speculation about which strikers Sunderland might sign, the Black Cats ended up with Jayden Danns coming in from Liverpool until the end of the season.
Overall, it was a pretty good transfer window for Sunderland, with Regis Le Bris also getting Enzo Le Fee on loan and Wilson Isidor’s loan move being made a permanent switch.
Danns says he has something to prove at Sunderland, but we’ll have to wait a while to see the new signing in action on Wearside.

Jayden Danns was ‘highly motivated’ for Sunderland switch
It emerged that, during his medical examination, Danns was suffering with a back injury. This news has left Sunderland fans confused and frustrated as to why the club insisted on signing him at all.
Discussing the situation via the club’s official website, Kristjaan Speakman revealed all, and suggested Danns was worth the wait and the trouble.
“Jayden is an extremely talented player, who fits the profile we were searching for,” Speakman said. “His availability was always going to be determined late in the window due to Liverpool’s schedule and the demand for him was high, so we worked extremely hard to secure the player.”
“It’s unfortunate that the medical process highlighted an issue that ultimately requires Jayden to take a period of rest,” he added. “Despite this, he remained highly motivated to come to Sunderland and as such we agreed to collaborate with Liverpool to ensure there is an opportunity for him to join us at a later date. We remain excited by the prospect of working with him and look forward to supporting him throughout the upcoming period.”
It is unknown exactly when Danns will be back to full fitness. Given he passed his medical, we would assume it will be anywhere between two weeks to a month.

How much of an impact can Jayden Danns have when he returns?
It says a lot that Sunderland persisted with the signing of Danns, particularly considering the other attacking options they looked at during the window.
We spoke to a Liverpool expert to ascertain whether Danns was truly worth the wait, and he explained that Sunderland have bagged an instinctive striker who will deliver classic poacher’s goals, and who will be hungry to succeed during this loan spell.
Jurgen Klopp described Danns as ‘special’ in the past, and it certainly bodes well that this is a player who has been pushing for a first-team place at Liverpool. Once he’s back fit, surely Danns can make an impact in the Championship and help Sunderland’s promotion push.
Whether he can really threaten Wilson Isidor and Eliezer Mayenda as Le Bris’ main forwards remains to be seen, but even from the bench, Sunderland will now have a really exciting alternative option to lean on.
