Sunderland have their hearts set on a deadline day striker signing, and they seem to have one in their crosshairs.
Kristjaan Speakman is pulling off another deadline day frenzy at Sunderland, or at least he’s hoping too, with links to a handful of players.
But it’s the striker search that has fans talking and they’re waiting for Liverpool striker Jayde Danns to be announced as their latest January signing.
The last news was that Danns was heading for a medical at the Stadium of Light ahead of joining for the remainder of the 2024/25 Championship season…

Sunderland not pursuing Southampton striker Adam Armstrong
Amid the wait for Sunderland to announce the Danns deal, it was revealed that Sunderland have an interest in Adam Armstrong at Southampton. The former Newcastle United striker was also linked with Middlesbrough and then Leeds United.
But journalist Phil Smith has now revealed on BlueSky that Armstrong is not a target for the Black Cats on deadline day. Instead, he reiterated the fact that Sunderland want Danns and that they’re working on getting his deal complete.

Sunderland deal for UCL man falls through on deadline day
Sunderland have been linked with a bunch of players on deadline day. Along with Danns and Armstrong is Red Star Belgrade striker Pape Cherif Ndiaye.
It was thought that Sunderland were interested in Ndiaye and could’ve either signed him on loan or permanently, having tried to sign the 29-year-old last summer.
But Red Star now want to keep Ndiaye as they’re fearful of selling too many players on deadline day.
Either way, if Danns joins Sunderland then it won’t really matter. He may well be watching Sunderland’s game at Middlesbrough on Monday evening as a Black Cats player himself.
