Tommy Watson’s deadline day saga may go down in Sunderland history. And the story between the Black Cats and Brighton isn’t even over.
Deadline day has come around fast, and so too has a rumoured move to Brighton for Sunderland’s young star Tommy Watson.
It’d been claimed that Watson is on his way to Brighton to see through his move from Wearside. But then Fabrizio Romano said Watson’s move to Brighton was off.
Romano also added that Sunderland would’ve received a £13million package for the 18-year-old. In return, the Black Cats wanted Brighton winger Simon Adingra on loan for the rest of the season.

Sunderland could still sell Tommy Watson to Brighton
Despite what Romano says, The Argus report that Watson’s proposed move to the south coast ‘has not totally been ruled out’ by Sunderland, who are willing to do business with Brighton the final hours of the transfer window.
However, the same report adds that Brighton didn’t want to send Adingra out on loan and that the player himself didn’t want to make the move to Sunderland on deadline day.
Lastly, The Argus state in their report: “For reasons which were not clear, it is believed a buy-and-loan-back arrangement for Watson was not seen as an option.”

Sunderland see bid for winger rejected on deadline day
As Watson’s move to Brighton heated up, so too did Sunderland links to wide players, with one being Dynamo Kyiv’s Nazar Voloshyn.
It was reported that Sunderland had made a bid for Voloshyn ahead of deadline day, but that on deadline day, the bid was rejected.
Sunderland are running out of winger options if they’re to offload Watson before 11pm. As of right now, that seems to be 50/50.
