Sunderland’s transfer plan for today could lead to a certain type of player being targeted by Kristjaan Speakman.
The Black Cats will be hoping to bring in an attacker by the January deadline.
Because of the struggles that they have endured throughout the month in bringing in talent in the front-line, as well as the lingering concerns over Tommy Watson’s future, it is clear that Sunderland need to act fast in order to ensure that Regis Le Bris has what he needs for the promotion battle.
Unsurprisingly, it has been revealed where Sunderland will exactly be targeting in terms of recruitment and that will be players that can be utilised on the left-wing. Amid uncertainty surrounding Watson, as well as the recent departure of Adil Aouchiche, Kristjaan Speakman has rightly identified the area as a prominent weakness.
With left-wingers being targeted ahead of the window closing, here are three players that Sunderland could target…

Sunderland could opt for Ligue 1 talent Lassine Sinayoko
As seen by the recent signing of Enzo Le Fee, Sunderland boss Le Bris does like to take a gamble on players that he knows from his Ligue 1 days, and one that he could look to bring in is AJ Auxerre winger Lassine Sinayoko.
The Mali international has managed six goal contributions so far in the 2024/25 Ligue 1 season, and has previously piqued the interest of fellow Championship club Bristol City, per L’Equipe, who were looking at the left-winger in the summer.

Josh Koroma could be on Kristjaan Speakman list
Speakman could also look towards League One for a left-winger signing, and one that could have potential is Huddersfield Town attacker Josh Koroma.
Because of the Terriers’ recent form, a promotion to the Championship may be starting to seem less likely for Huddersfield Town, which could see Koroma jump ship as a result.
It was reported that earlier on in the window, via Darren Witcoop, that Josh Koroma had potential suitors, some of which being in the Championship, and it is unlikely that the winger would reject a move back to the second-tier.

Regis Le Bris could push for former player Bamba Dieng
Le Bris may very well be up for getting the band back together after already signing Le Fee, and his next piece in the Lorient puzzle could be Bamba Dieng.
The winger played a part in Le Bris’ vastly successful Lorient side during the 2022/23 Ligue 1 season, bagging three goals in half a season after his move from Marseille.
Dieng now plies his trade for Ligue 1 side Angers, and whilst his game-time this season has been sporadic, Le Bris could seek to bring the very best out of his former player.
