One Sunderland star has revealed a slight injury that he played with against Coventry City.

The Black Cats’ game against Coventry City saw them pegged back from what looked like a fairly comfortable two-goal lead for Regis Le Bris’ side.

Sunderland were massively contrasting in the second half of action at the Stadium of Light, and they looked to be relinquished of all attacking prowess after the interval.

Thankfully, two moments of brilliance in the first half ensured that they would come away with at least a point from the 2-2 draw with Coventry City, one of which being the incredible looping effort by French attacker Wilson Isidor, whilst there was also a terrific strike by left-back Dennis Cirkin.

The full-back, after the game, revealed that he picked up an injury previously, and whether it will have a negative impact on his playing time for Sunderland.

Sunderland star Dennis Cirkin reveals injury details amid game time worries

Despite it being an overly negative showing by Le Bris’ side, Cirkin was without a doubt a standout for the team in Wearside, as he has been on countless occasions so far in the 2024/25 Championship campaign.

The Black Cats man, however, has revealed that he was carrying a hand injury during a previous game, and he has offered insight into the severity of it.

Per Sunderland Echo, Cirkin said when questioned on a recent hand injury picked up against Coventry was okay: “Yeah, I think so,”

“I think that’s a question you’ll have to ask the physio team. I had a bit of an issue with it from the QPR game.

“There are always little things going on but as a footballer, you’re never going to be 100% going into a game. That’s why we’re finding the best solution, to just keep me on the pitch and try to get as best as I can to 100 per cent.”

Dennis Cirkin availability is crucial to prevent key Sunderland weakness being exploited

It is crucial for Sunderland that Cirkin remains a crucial part of the side, and it shows great dedication from him to remain in the team, despite injury.

The fact that he has stayed in the team means that one major issue for Sunderland will not quite yet be uncovered, and that is the current squad depth in the left-back position.

Currently, Leo Fuhr Hjelde is the only other viable left-back option available for Sunderland and Le Bris, and considering the fact that he has played a total of three minutes in the Championship so far in the 2024/25 campaign certainly suggests that he won’t be up to speed if unexpectedly called upon.
