Several Sunderland players have sent a message to one star after his brilliant showing against Coventry City.
Sunderland will be left the more disappointed of the two sides as their two-goal advantage at half-time was pegged back against a Coventry City side that recently parted with former boss Mark Robins.
The Black Cats put in a poor second half showing, which didn’t quite show the attacking qualities they clearly carry on display.
Whilst it was two points dropped for Regis Le Bris’ side, there were plenty of positives to take from the first half at the Stadium of Light.
Dennis Cirkin was certainly one, and he struck an incredible goal from distance, on top of a quality defensive showing from the full-back.
He was without a doubt one of the shining lights for Le Bris’ side against Coventry City, and he has since received plenty of praise from his Sunderland teammates.

Sunderland teammates praise Dennis Cirkin after showing vs Coventry City
Black Cats defender Cirkin has been crucial for Sunderland up until this point of the 2024/25 Championship season, and he has been statistically proven to be the best in the league.
He once again showed his class against Coventry City, despite the disappointing draw, and the Sunderland squad were first to recognise that brilliant showing.
After taking to Instagram, many Sunderland players left a message to the Black Cats goalscorer, including Jobe Bellingham, who wrote ‘Top!!’.
He was also joined by three others, including Romaine Mundle and Simon Moore, as well as midfielder Alan Browne, who left a comment that wrote: ‘My LB ❤️’.
Dennis Cirkin performance vs Coventry City proved key aspect of Sunderland under Regis Le Bris
There is no doubt that Cirkin’s performance against Coventry City was game-changing, and it highlights one key aspect of the current Sunderland side.
As a result, it truly highlights that a key difference between the 2023/24 and 2024/25 season is the fact that Sunderland carry an attacking threat from their defence, as Cirkin and Trai Hume have provided on a consistent basis.
This provides extra assurance that Sunderland can perform, even if the wingers aren’t quite on their top game, and that is the making of a top Championship outfit.
The Black Cats had the likes of Clarke as a goalscoring output last season, but the significant change under Le Bris is the amount of players that can be depended on to pop up when needed with a goal.
