Sunderland goalscorer Wilson Isidor sent a message to the fans immediately after the 2-2 draw with Blackburn Rovers.

Sunderland picked up a point on the road as they drew 2-2 with high-flying Blackburn Rovers.

The game that saw the Black Cats backed by 7,000 supporters making the trek to Ewood Park on Boxing day got off to a poor start as Sunderland once again fell behind, going into the interval with a one-goal deficit to overcome.

A goal from Chris Rigg got Regis Le Bris’ side back on level terms, with Wilson Isidor sending his side into the lead just four minutes later.

Sunderland had an opportunity to wrap up all three points as Eliezer Mayenda was played through on goal, but couldn’t find the back of the net, and in the 90th minute, Blackburn Rovers bagged late on to clinch a point.

Overall, it was a game of positives and negatives for Le Bris’ side to take back to Wearside, and that is certainly something that goalscorer Isidor was quick to comment on.

Wilson Isidor comments on Sunderland goal after point gained on the road vs Blackburn Rovers

Black Cats striker Isidor managed a well-needed goal on a personal level, with it being his first in eight games for Sunderland.

It will hopefully prove to be a confidence booster for the Frenchman, who managed to net an intricate finish past Blackburn Rovers’ Aynsley Pears, one that would have been met with a sigh of relief from the forward.

However, the Sunderland ace wasn’t long to suggest that the result was ‘not the present we wanted to give’ to the fans after he posted less than three hours after full-time on X.

Sunderland should be much happier with Blackburn Rovers draw, it’s a sign of one clear improvement

On the surface of the game, many people would cast over the details of the match and suggest that the Black Cats would be disappointed having conceded late on to restrict them to just one point on the road.

However, against a side in 5th, Sunderland certainly would have been more than happy with a point before the 90 minutes, particularly considering the fact that they found themselves down 1-0 at the interval.

The game showed a real fight and spirit to get ahead courtesy of goals from Rigg and Isidor, and that is something that they only showed in incredibly small doses throughout the 2023/24 Championship campaign, and there is no doubt that Le Bris is at the front-and-centre of succeeding in shifting such a change in the team after just a short period in Wearside.
