One Sunderland star showed his consistency by once again recording another solid showing vs Blackburn Rovers.
Regis Le Bris’ side recorded a solid 2-2 draw on their travels as they faced off with Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.
It was a draw that saw Sunderland stretch their unbeaten run to five games in the 2024/25 Championship campaign, with the Black Cats continuing to sit in 4th place in the league table.
The game saw Wilson Isidor pop up with a well-needed goal to end his drought when leading the line for Le Bris’ side, whilst Chris Rigg also bagged a goal from the centre-of-the-park, however, there was another player that played a crucial role in picking up a point against a well-drilled Blackburn Rovers side, and it is something that he has actually succeeded in doing all season.

Patrick Roberts shines in Sunderland draw, he has been showing high levels all season
Aside from the injury-stricken Romaine Mundle, it is safe to say that Sunderland’s front line haven’t been the most consistent in regards to goalscoring output. Isidor has only just recovered from an eight-game goal drought, whilst Eliezer Mayenda continues to show levels of complacency at key moments, although it’s worth noting that he is just 19-years-old.
However, Black Cats winger Patrick Roberts has quietly gone about his business, providing that consistency, not in terms of finding the back of the net, but providing a clear and distinct impact down the right flank, with Sunderland often relying on his creativity to help change the tide of a game.
He certainly played his part in the draw with Blackburn Rovers as he ‘came through with a big contribution’, per Sunderland Echo, from his assist to set up Isidor’s lovely flick, to even his defensive contributions in helping Trai Hume at full-back, with him notching 49 touches throughout the game, where he looked to cause trouble at any given moment.

Sunderland winger Roberts certainly struggled in the 2023/24 Championship campaign, notably lacking a real edge in front of goal when playing under the likes of Michael Beale and Mike Dodds, and it is clear just how much Le Bris has managed to get out of him compared to his previous term.
Roberts’ creative abilities truly shine through when looking at his contributions so far in the 2024/25 Championship campaign as, per SofaScore, he has managed five assists already, whilst also creating four big chances. His passing accuracy for a direct forward has ben top notch, with it sitting at 84%.
In regards to his dribbling ability, he hasn’t had glimmering success, having recorded a 45% dribbling success rate, however it is clear that his playmaking talent more than makes up for any shortcomings in his game, and it is clear that Le Bris has succeeded in getting him to play back to his best.
