A former Sunderland player who was at the game yesterday noticed something striking.
Sunderland drew 2-2 at Ewood Park against Blackburn Rovers, a result that has its positives and negatives.
Once again finding themselves down at the interval by a goal, the Black Cats responded in good form, with Chris Rigg bagging a goal, whilst Wilson Isidor scored a neat and intricate finish, a sign that the Frenchman is hopefully on the way to being back at his best.
Regis Le Bris’ side had a huge opportunity to wrap up all three points as Eliezer Mayenda found himself through on goal, however, Blackburn Rovers shot-stopper Aysnley Pears denied the 19-year-old forward before they bagged a late goal to settle the scoreline as a draw.
It was brilliant to see such a fight from a Sunderland side in front of 7,000 travelling fans that packed out one end of Ewood Park, and one former player found himself to be one of that large contingent of supporters, where he noticed something ‘incredible’.

Former Sunderland ace Max Power hails ‘special’ support away at Blackburn Rovers
Sunderland let go of midfielder Max Power in July 2021, where he has since found himself at Wigan Athletic, Saudi Arabian side Al-Qadsiah and now he currently plies his trade in Denmark with Aarhus.
Having notched 137 appearances for the Black Cats, his time in Wearside certainly wasn’t lost on him as seen by the fact that he spent his Boxing Day as part of the wall of Sunderland fans located behind the goal at Ewood Park.
Power took to X to praise the Sunderland fans, to which he said: “The support [is] one of the best in the country. Over 7000 fans..incredible! Special club. My boys loved it.
Hope the club kicks right on in the second half of the season. Haway the lads!”

Black Cats support will make significant difference to promotion push
In the grand scheme of things, it is by no means a bad outcome for Sunderland to come away from an away trip to Blackburn Rovers with a point under their belt, although the manner in which their lead slipped was certainly far from ideal.
In all honesty, the outcome of the game could have easily been much different without the contingent of Black Cats fans making the atmosphere feel in fact like a home game for Le Bris’ side.
If Sunderland can find themselves still in-and-around the promotion battle in the weeks and months to come, the fans certainly deserve credit for backing their side all the way, whether it’s Middlesbrough away or Plymouth Argyle.
