The list of Sunderland players wanted for January moves seems to be growing. But the Black Cats are determined not to lose at least one of them.
January looks set to be a worrying month for Sunderland who could entertain interest in a lot of their key first-team players.
Right now, Jobe Bellingham is wanted by Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, and likely a horde of other teams too, whilst Chris Rigg has also been linked with Real Madrid and a handful of others.
It looks like Sunderland will have to decide who they’ll keep and who they’ll sell, with player sales a huge part of what they’re about now.
The Sunderland owners will only settle for the right price, though. Should one of Bellingham or Rigg leave then it’ll no doubt command a fee in the region of £20million or more, as it would put a huge dent in their promotion credentials this season.
But there’s one name who isn’t a first-team regular just yet, but who is in demand: Trey Ogunsuyi.

Sunderland will block January bids for Trey Ogunsuyi
Ahead of January, it’s been widely reported that Liverpool are keen on Ogunsuyi and that they could make a move for the Sunderland academy man in the New Year.
The 18-year-old has scored four in four Premier League 2 appearances this season but is still waiting to make his first-team debut under Regis Le Bris, which may come soon given the growing interest in his services.
Now though, an emerging report from The Northern Echo has stated that ‘Sunderland officials would resist’ any move for Ogunsuyi in January, ‘stressing to Ogunsuyi their commitment to promoting from within’.
The same report adds that Ogunsuyi is understood to be under contract at the Stadium of Light until the summer of 2026.

What Sunderland fans are saying about Trey Ogunsuyi
Right now, Sunderland are struggling for goals with nine scored in their last nine, and with three of those coming in their stunning comeback win against Swansea City last time out.
Wilson Isidor has received criticism from Sunderland fans who now want to see Ogunsuyi given a run out, to see what all this transfer hype is about.
Sunderland fans say they would ‘love to see’ Ogunsuyi deployed in the Championship before too late. But when that opportunity might come remains to be seen.
But with the Black Cats not looking to sell, it could suggest that they have first-team plans for the striker in 2025.
