A former Sunderland and Manchester United legend has spoken out on Amad Diallo amid his resurrection at Old Trafford.

Amad Diallo is a former player who Sunderland fans like to keep close tabs on, as his career goes from strength to strength following his time on loan at the Stadium of Light during the 2022/23 season.

Sunderland signed Diallo on loan from Manchester United and his 14 Championship goals that season made him a key player for Tony Mowbray’s side.

In the months after, Sunderland were often linked with a return for Diallo. But it never came about as Diallo steadily became a key player for Manchester United, especially so this season.

The Ivorian has scored twice and assisted six more in 14 Premier League appearances this season and Diallo scored the winning goal in the Manchester derby over the weekend too.

John O’Shea reveals what Sunderland players said about Amad Diallo

John O’Shea is a name very familiar with both Manchester United and Sunderland fans, racking up 394 appearances for the former and 256 for the latter.

Now part of the coaching staff of the Republic of Ireland national team, O’Shea recently spoke about Diallo and Sunderland on MUTV, revealing what he’d been told about Diallo’s time at the Stadium of Light.

“They just used to say ‘pass the ball to Amad’, because he was so confident in possession.

“Obviously, it’s a different level now he’s at but he’s showing the confidence, and that maturity, in his performances.”

Amad Diallo sends warm Sunderland message amid Man Utd resurrection

Speaking in a recent interview, Diallo discussed his time on loan at Sunderland, which he’s often spoken very fondly about.

Diallo watches Sunderland matches in his free time and has retained a positive relationship with the club and its fanbase.

He said: “Sunderland was my second time on loan, and I have a lot of beautiful things to say about the club.

“They supported me and were unbelievable with me and my family and tried to help me in everything – on and off the pitch.

“They give me a lot of love and I enjoyed every moment of playing for Sunderland – I was so happy to be part of it.”

Watching Diallo flourish on the big stage will come as no surprise to Sunderland fans who rated Diallo very highly indeed. Now under a new manager in Ruben Amorim, it looks like Diallo could take his game to the next level.
