Sunderland are going crazy in their race to sign a striker before the January transfer window slams shut on Monday night. Yet another name has now been linked.

Sunderland are in all too familiar territory right now. Kristjaan Speakman is working desperately to sign a new striker before the winter window closes at 11pm on Monday night.

It’s often the case for the Black Cats, who keep on being linked with names like Chuba Akpom and Tom Cannon, but who keep on losing out to other clubs.

Now though, a new name in Liverpool youngster Jayden Danns has been linked with a move to the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland eyeing Liverpool striker Jayden Danns

An emerging report from The Northern Echo has confirmed that Sunderland are looking into a deal for Liverpool’s young striker Danns, 19, who’s so far made three Premier League appearances for his hometown team.

Their report states that Danns is ‘a leading target’ for Speakman and Sunderland who have now ‘lodged their interest’ in a loan deal, with Black Cats officials confident of a deal.

Blackburn Rovers have already held talks with Danns, ‘with at least three other Championship clubs’ waiting on a possible deal for the Englishman as well.

Jayden Danns’ Liverpool career so far

Danns has been with Liverpool since 2014 when he was just eight years old. He’s since worked his way through the ranks and made his Premier League debut for the Reds in the 2023/24 season.

This time round, the youngster has played once in the league under Arne Slot, and once in the Champions League as well.

With Liverpool’s attacking options stacked and gametime limited for Danns, Liverpool now seem prepared to send him out on loan, though where they deem the best fit for him remains to be seen.

Sunderland retain a good reputation for developing younger players and with striker options limited, Danns would surely get his share of gametime.

Though whether he’d be able to bolster the promotion push remains to be seen. He remains very inexperienced and so it’d be a gamble for Sunderland.
