Fulham have steadied themselves in the Premier League after a tough few years in recent times. Sunderland are trying to do the same, with the Black Cats really pushing for promotion this season.

Sunderland find themselves in a somewhat unexpected promotion race this season. Regis Le Bris arrived in the summer and has taken the Black Cats to another level.

His side are next in action on Monday with Sunderland playing Middlesbrough at the Riverside, in what promises to be a really tough game for the Black Cats.

Le Bris says the timing of the match isn’t ideal with deadline day falling on Monday as well, and Sunderland trying to do some deals before the window slams shut at 11pm.

Fulham eyeing Trai Hume at Sunderland

But for sporting director Kristjaan Speakman, signing new players may not be the only thing he has to deal with on deadline day. He may also have to deal with potential outgoings, with Trai Hume now linked with a move away.

Belfast Telegraph have revealed that Fulham have added Trai Hume to their transfer shortlist ahead of deadline day. But the same report adds that Sunderland would need an offer of £20million to even consider selling Hume right now.

Sunderland signed Hume from Linfield in 2022 for just £150,000. He’s since made 113 total appearances for the club, scoring four and assisting six along the way.

The worrying Trai Hume transfer verdict at Sunderland

It still seems like Kyril Louis-Dreyfus will veto any possible player sales until the summer, so that Sunderland can vie for promotion. He wouldn’t go out and spend so much on Eno Le Fee’s loan signing to then go and sell a key player like Hume on deadline day.

But the 22-year-old right-back could face a very testing summer if the Black Cats don’t go up. Speaking to Sunderland AFC News previously, transfer expert Graeme Bailey predicted Hume will leave Sunderland if they don’t earn promotion this season.

He said: “If they don’t go up they’ll probably lose two or three. Chris Rigg definitely. [Dan] Ballard probably, and maybe Hume.”

Fulham will have to work very quickly if they want a deal for Hume in the next 24 hours.
