Sunderland man Adil Aouchiche has joined Portsmouth on loan for the remainder of the season, capping a very up and down first half of the campaign on Wearside.

Adil Aouchiche went from complete outcast at Sunderland, to becoming one of their most useful players for a handful of games.

The Frenchman was reunited with former Lorient boss Regis Le Bris in the summer but soon after, it was claimed that Aouchiche wanted to leave Sunderland.

Eventually coming back into the side and making eight league appearances in 2024/25, Aouchiche has now joined Portsmouth on loan for the remainder of the campaign.

Sunderland fans all agree as Adil Aouchiche joins Portsmouth

On the whole, Sunderland fans aren’t sure why the club has decided to let Aouchiche leave. Many think he’s a good player and that injuries in the left wing spot right now makes Aouchiche an important player too.

“Not sure I like this but time will tell,” said one fan of Aouchiche’s departure, as another added: “This very well could come back to bite us in terms of depth. Silly decision.”

Others said they were “gutted” and that it was a “great signing for Pompey.” But many feel that the club has done themselves a disservice by allowing Aouchiche to leave, even if only temporarily.

“Like to have kept him. Think he should have featured more,” said one Sunderland supporter, whilst another added: “Absolutely wounded about Aouchiche, absolute baller when he’s played in the correct position. Hopefully it won’t be a loan to bite us when pushing for promotion.”

What Portsmouth manager John Mousinho has said about Adil Aouchiche

It’s clear to see that Pompey boss John Mousinho is very excited about Aouchiche’s arrival at Fratton Park. Speaking as the club announced the news, Mousinho said: “We’re delighted to welcome Adil to Fratton Park for the remainder of the campaign.

“We already saw first-hand just how dangerous he can be when we played Sunderland a few weeks ago. He’s an incredibly talented young player who will complement the attacking options we already have in the squad.”

Now, Aouchiche will want to do Mousinho proud, and put in some good performances to help the 21st place side avoid relegation this season. The Frenchman will also want to prove any of his Sunderland doubters wrong.
