Sunderland have made their second signing of the January transfer window, and it’s a much-needed striker signing. Though it might not be who fans are expecting.
Sunderland have been frantically searching for a new striker signing ahead of deadline day on Monday, having made just the one January signing up until now.
Roma midfielder Enzo Le Fee has arrived on loan for the remainder of the campaign, and it’s a quality signing. After, it quickly became clear that a striker signing was the priority at the Stadium of Light.
Now, the Black Cats have signed a striker and like the Le Fee deal, it’s another quality capture. Though it’s not one that adds that much-needed depth up top.

Sunderland praised after making ‘huge’ Wilson Isidor announcement
Sunderland aren’t in action on Saturday. They play on Monday night against Middlesbrough and for Wilson Isidor, it’ll be his first game as a permanent Sunderland player after the club announced his signing.
The Black Cats have made Isidor’s loan stay from Zenit permanent after his blistering first half of the season on Wearside, which has seen him score nine goals in 26 Championship games for the Black Cats, with the bulk of his goals being really impressive ones too.
Journalist Michael Graham reacted to the news and perhaps summed up how the vast majority of Sunderland fans are feeling after seeing Isidor sign permanently. He posted:
How much Sunderland are paying for Wilson Isidor
The 24-year-old signs on a contract until the summer of 2028. It’s another player on a longer-term deal for Sunderland, and another player who could quickly become a £20million man in a couple of seasons.
He’s got the underlying qualities of a striker with huge potential. And Sunderland have spent well on the Frenchman with reports last summer that Sunderland had the option to buy Isidor for £3.5million.
It’s not been confirmed that Sunderland have paid that much, though that was the reported fee beforehand. Speakman and Regis Le Bris surely want another striker, though, with Isidor and Eliezer Mayenda really the only options up top.
