So far, 2024 has been a year of ups and downs for Sunderland. But 2025 could be a very bright one for the Black Cats, especially in the transfer market.
Kristjaan Speakman has been a very divisive figure among Sunderland fans at times. Even just a few months ago, there were growing cries for ‘Speakman out’ at the Stadium of Light.
It came amid what was, at one point, a quite pain-staking managerial search. Though all is well now with Regis Le Bris working wonders with Sunderland who sit in 1st place of the Championship table.
Speakman is rightly earning praise for Le Bris’ appointment, and he’s rightly earning praise for what’s proving to be a very strong summer transfer window.
Names like Chris Mepham are shining, whilst fans are eager to see the likes of Milan Aleksic, Salis Abdul Samed, and Ahmed Abdullahi in action.
But perhaps the pick of the summer signings is Wilson Isidor.

Sunderland could pull off ‘deal of the century’ for Wilson Isidor
The Black Cats signing Isidor really came out of nowhere during the summer, with Isidor’s agent later revealing that his move to Sunderland took jut two days to go through.
There was some confusion about where he’d play in the side; on the left or up front. Now, there’s no debate, with Isidor showing his worth as an out and out striker.
Four goals in nine Championship appearances making him the club’s joint-highest scorer in the league with Romaine Mundle this season.
Sunderland beat Oxford United last time out and Isidor scored a stunning half-volley to seal the win.
Posting on X, journalist Michael Graham has labelled Sunderland possibly signing Isidor, for what was previously reported by Sport-Express to be a £3.5million fee, as the ‘deal of the century’.

Wilson Isidor salary at Zenit, and where he ranks on Sunderland’s wage bill
Per Capology, Isidor earns £8,500-a-week at parent club Zenit. And that actually puts him in the mid-range of earners at the Stadium of Light.
Dan Ballard is the highest-earning player on £25,000-a-week, with only eight current first-team players earning over £10,000-a-week, per the same source.
Isidor has spoken about his love for Sunderland which is evident in his interviews, with his recent goals earning a lot of love from fans too.
Like Graham says, if Sunderland could snap up Isidor for £3.5million, in this vein of form, it would be a real bargain for Speakman and the club.
