Sunderland look hopeful of finally signing a striker in the final days of the transfer window.
The Black Cats have already snapped up Wilson Isidor who can play up front, but it is unclear whether he will be deployed as a No. 9.
Sunderland remain interested in signing Alexandre Mendy after having multiple bids knocked back this summer, while they have also made an ambitious move to sign RB Salzburg’s Roko Simic.
The Wearside outfit are now looking at targets closer to home though and have revived their interest in Tom Cannon.
Sunderland tried to sign the 21-year-old last summer but he went onto join Leicester City in a permanent deal.
He now looks likely to leave the Foxes though, with Sunderland acting fast as they made a £5 million bid yesterday.
Leicester are yet to respond to the offer, however The Sun have claimed that they will demand £7m for his exit.

Sunderland have one ‘big worry’ in Cannon race
Journalist Michael Graham believes Sunderland have ‘a lot going for them’ in the race for Cannon, but has admitted there is one ‘big worry’.
Writing on X, he said: #SAFC have a lot going for them here. – Can almost guarantee he’ll play. Top of the league (even tho it’s early days). Clarke money to spend. Proved with Clarke the club can develop players and won’t block pathways if they do well Personal terms could be big worry tho.”
Cannon could be key to Sunderland’s push for promotion
Cannon will be desperate for regular game-time after managing only three starts in the Championship last season, while he is yet to feature following their promotion.
If Sunderland are prepared to pay over £5m for the striker then he will surely be guaranteed a starting spot – which would also suggest they wouldn’t be signing Simic.
Given that the club have already raked in £15m for Clarke then it would suggest they have a huge advantage if it was to go to a bidding war.
However, he would surely have to take a pay cut if he was to leave Leicester. It is whether he is prepared to do so in order to pick up regular minutes.
Despite his difficult spell at the King Power Stadium, it would definitely be a brilliant signing for Sunderland and one that would show real intent going into the rest of the campaign.
The Black Cats have managed very well in attack without a senior striker, so who knows how they could perform with Cannon spearheading the frontline.
