Sunderland are set to miss out on Everton forward Tom Cannon who they had an interest in signing on-loan.

The Black Cats’ shift toward targeting high potential youth players is set to continue as they keep getting linked with high potential youngsters.

Tony Mowbray’s side have signed multiple prospects this summer including Jobe Bellingham and Jenson Seelt from Birmingham and PSV.

Outside of this, every player they’ve signed is younger than 23-years-old, with the exception of Bradley Lack at 29.

Sunderland are building for the future and present with these moves with the most impressive coup coming from Portugal.

Luis Semedo from Benfica arrived for free after his contract expired, but is a player who has been a name tipped with huge potential.

But they aren’t content yet and are looking for more, however the player they wanted could now be unattainable.

Sunderland miss out on Cannon

Sunderland had been linked with making a move to sign Everton’s 20-year-old striker Tom Cannon.

The Toffee’s forward fits perfectly into the clubs recruitment philosophy and therefore missing out on him will be a blow to the club.

According to Chronicle Live the Stadium of Light outfit are set to miss out on Cannon with Preston North End winning the race for his signature.

Preston beat out a host of Championship sides to sign Cannon on loan including Leeds.

It has also been reported by Alan Nixon that despite Preston receiving the green light for the deal, Serie A side Sampdoria could still hijack the deal with a £8million bid to make it a permanent deal.

A blow for Sunderland, but we are sure they have a whole list of options that could fit the bill.
