Sunderland unearthed a gem in Trai Hume back in 2022. Now, the Black Cats could repeat the same trick, though Newcastle United are keen try their hand.
Sunderland paid just £200,000 for Trai Hume in January 2022. Three years later and he’s a £20million player for the Black Cats, along with a handful of others who were signed for cheap.
But the transfer picture on Wearside isn’t very pretty right now. Kristjaan Speakman is searching frantically for a new striker, although the Black Cats have made two positive signings in January so far.
Enzo Le Fee has joined on loan whilst Wilson Isidor has made his loan stay permanent.

Sunderland and Newcastle United battling to sign Matthew Orr
An emerging report from ESPN has revealed that Sunderland and Newcastle United are rivalling each other for the signing of Linfield’s 17-year-old star Matthew Orr, who their report says is regarded as the best Northern Irish talent to emerge since Jonny Evans.
The young right-back signed his first professional contract last summer and is highly regarded in his home country, with ESPN insisting that sources think he’s ready for the switch to England. Currently, he’s studying in college and only trains two days every week.

Trai Hume transfer interest emerges
As Sunderland are being linked with their Hume 2.0, their original is being linked with a potential deadline exit from the Stadium of Light.
Reports have claimed that Fulham are interested in Hume. The Sunderland owners want £20million for the Northern Irish international, though, which makes his potential exit unlikely.
But given Hume’s success on Wearside, it’s no surprise to hear that Speakman is looking at Linfield once again, with Orr sounding like another very exciting talent.
If Sunderland can win the race for this one then it could be another masterstroke by the club.
