One Sunderland transfer target is now available for a loan move after a crucial development.

With the January transfer window nearing, Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris will certainly be hoping that a few quality additions are added to his side.

The French boss has made it clear that he would not be against attacking signings in the January window, and that could be made much more likely with the recent form of Sunderland attacker Wilson Isidor, although Le Bris has kept his confidence in his man leading the line.

Due to Isidor’s form, alongside the current absence of Romaine Mundle and Tommy Watson on the left flank, it is expected that Sunderland and Kristjaan Speakman will waste no time in pursuing their top targets, one of which being Louie Barry.

The Aston Villa attacker has plenty of Championship clubs eyeing up a move for him, and recent developments suggest that he will almost likely be handed a loan to the second tier this January.

Aston Villa recall Sunderland target Louie Barry ahead of January transfer window

Sunderland target Barry has been thriving in League One this season, scoring 14 goals for Stockport County throughout the 2024/25 campaign, mostly from the left flank.

The Black Cats, alongside a whole host of Championship sides, are interested in bringing the 21-year-old to the Stadium of Light this January, and it is even more possible now due to the fact that he will officially be recalled from his Stockport County after New Year’s Day.

Barry, who has been in scintillating form for the Hatters in the past two seasons, was moved over to a more consistent position down the left flank this season, and Stockport County have reaped the rewards of that with seven goals in 11 when playing in that position, showing that he would be a brilliant addition amid the absence of Mundle and Watson.

Regis Le Bris reputation could move the Black Cats up the pecking order for Louie Barry signature

It is undoubtedly going to be a difficult challenge for Sunderland to attain the services of Aston Villa attacker Louie Barry in January, especially with the competition waiting to strike a deal.

However, Sunderland do potentially have a wildcard up their sleeve, and that is Le Bris, who has gained a reputation for developing talents in the short period of time that he has been on Wearside.

If a move for Barry can be sanctioned, Sunderland will comfortably have one of the top attacks in the league, and the depth needed for a promotion chase.
