Sunderland’s current loaned-out gems have offered a variation in terms of success away from Wearside.

The Black Cats’ squad is quite threadbare with the upcoming January transfer window on the horizon, and much of that will come down to the fact that Regis Le Bris and Kristjaan Speakman sanctioned several loans in the summer.

Sunderland fans have become accustomed to the fact that the French boss doesn’t often switch around his options regarding team selection, and he made that very clear at the start after getting rid of some players who were around the team in the disappointing 2023/24 Championship campaign.

Despite being loaned away, Le Bris certainly wouldn’t have shut the door entirely on the younger prospects that are currently plying their trade elsewhere, with some gems proving their abilities, however, some have certainly disappointed away from the club.

Sunderland loanee Nectarios Triantis has thrived with Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership

Current Black Cats loanee Nectarios Triantis finds himself at Hibernian, where he has managed to cement down a spot in holding midfield for the Scottish side.

The Australian U23 international has notched 16 starts for the Edinburgh-based outfit, where, per SofaScore, he currently finds himself as the 5th top-rated player for his side.

Triantis required game-time following last season with Sunderland, where he managed just one start.

Current defensive-midfield options do look rather light at this moment for Le Bris, and the return of Triantis in the summer could bode well for the Frenchman, especially after a year of experience with a solid Scottish side.

Regis Le Bris will be expecting more from Timothee Pembele on current loan spell

One player who was unsurprisingly moved on this summer was Timothee Pembele, who struggled to really show top levels in the 2023/24 Championship season.

Now finding himself at Ligue 1 side Le Havre on loan, Pembele has recently found himself in and around the side, notching seven starts in the sides’ last eight games.

Unfortunately for Pembele, there is very little consistency in regards to where he is being utilised, playing at right-back and centre-half on occasions, as well as at right-midfield.

The French 22-year-old’s seven games so far this season have unfortunately seen six of those lost.

Regis Le Bris will be disappointed with Luis Hemir development at Juventus

One of the big disappointments of the 2023/24 Championship season was Luis Hemir, who didn’t manage a single goal for the Black Cats, despite leading the line on 23 occasions, often from off the bench.

His surprise loan move this season to Juventus’ youth set-up has seen a similar trend with his goalscoring, or lack thereof, with just two goals for the youngster in 17 games in Italy’s third tier, although has still been suggested that he ‘has everything’, as said by his former coach in Portugal.

Juventus have an option to buy the Sunderland youngster, but based on recent performances, it could be very likely that he finds himself back on Wearside, where after his season so far, it would be unlikely that he would be reinstated back into the Black Cats squad.
