Sunderland fans were left baffled today as reports emerged of Luis Hemir’s move to Juventus.
Many supporters refused to believe it before further reports claimed he was indeed set to join the Italian giants on loan.
Hemir’s exit is yet to be confirmed, but it is expected that he will join Juventus on loan with the option to buy from Sunderland.
Benfica’s president confirmed last summer that the Black Cats paid £420,000 for the striker last summer, while they could pay up to an extra £840k in add-ons.
Given how poorly he did in his first season on Wearside, it seems unlikely that they would have to cough up more cash.

Sunderland set for huge profit from Hemir exit
Sunderland fans definitely won’t have expected to make a profit on Hemir so soon, but it now appears that they could well make plenty of money from his potential exit.
According to journalist James Copley, the Wearside outfit could even make a seven-figure profit from the Portuguese youngster.
Copley wrote on X: “Reports from Italy on Hemir to Juventus Next Gen. Season-long loan with a buy-out price set at €3million euros for Hemir plus €2million in bonuses. 20 per cent of the future fee also included.”
How have Sunderland managed that?
While the bonuses aren’t guaranteed, a permanent deal for Hemir next summer would already gift Sunderland a huge profit.
While the 21-year-old will join Juventus Next Gen rather than their senior team, it is unbelievable that they are willing to pay such a fee after his disastrous time at the Stadium of Light.
Sunderland will happily take the cash and run though, and while it has been a very poor signing, there can be fewer complaints if they are to rake in seven figures next summer.
It seems unlikely that Hemir will play for Sunderland again even if Juventus choose to send him back to Wearside. He seems far from Championship level and with the club eager for promotion, he certainly wouldn’t be ready for the Premier League.
