Sky Sports pundits Curtis Davies and Darren Bent have had their say on one controversial Hull City Sunderland moment.
Sunderland came out victorious against Hull City at the MKM Stadium, with Regis Le Bris’ side now sitting top of the Championship after the big three points.
It was a fine display from the current Black Cats outfit, particularly in defence with Chris Mepham playing a starring role, leading to him rightly being praised from Sunderland fans in awe of his performance, as well as him getting credit from the French boss.
In midfield, Dan Neil also put in a solid showing despite the pressure of his recent poor performances potentially setting in, with him looking composed on the ball whilst showing a solid ability to help dictate play.
As for the leading line, Wilson Isidor has already proven to be a crucial player at Sunderland and he showed just that in the win against Hull City with a brilliant solo goal that saw him fend off Cody Drameh before slotting it past Ivor Pandur, however the goal was tarred with controversy, and that has been highlighted by many.

Curtis Davies and Darren Bent debate over Hull City vs Sunderland controversy
The controversial moment that led to Isidor’s goal proved to be decisive in the game after the referee allegedly blocked off Hull City’s Xavier Simons.
Whilst the French attacker did brilliantly to notch a superb finish at the end of a move that was by no means easy, he was certainly handed a helping-hand in this instance, and it has sparked debate between former Hull City defender Curtis Davies and Darren Bent.
Per Sky Sports Football on X, Davies gave his views on the incident, to which he said: “The referee doesn’t hit him so he can’t stop play, but he clearly gets in the way.
“We want referees to be in good positions as there is no VAR so therefore he takes up that position thinking it’s going into the box.
“Once it’s played short he [the referee] hasn’t really got the time to react straight away.
“Unfortunately he’s in the way.”
Bent believes that Hull City don’t quite deserve the sympathy for the goal conceded after he said: “I think with Simons, you’re experienced enough, even if you’re doing a set play and you’ve been going through it every day in the week, it gets to a point where it doesn’t always go to plan.
“If that option is not on, just play the simple pass, take it across your body and try something else.
“The fact he’s still tried to get onto his Cruyff turn and he’s given his ball away, yes ive got a bit of sympathy for him, but he’s experienced enough that he’s made a mistake there, he’s tried to be too clever, he’s got caught and he’s been punished for it.”
Controversial refereeing decision should not overshadow spectacular Wilson Isidor goal
Whilst the main talking point following the final whistle was the placement of the referee in the overturning of the ball prior to Sunderland’s only goal of the game, credit must still be handed to Isidor after what was a brilliant finish at the end of a darting run that was by no means easy to pull off.
Sunderland certainly deserved the win in the end, and whilst it did take place under controversial terms, there is no doubt that the performance was reflective of a side that were prepared to battle away from home, and they did just that on this occasion.
Le Bris has done incredibly well to distil this mentality in his side of being incredibly difficult to break down whilst playing away from home, and the French boss without a doubt deserves credit for this, as well as Isidor who at the other end made it count and significantly helped in bagging all three points.
