One of Sunderland’s stars put in a brilliant, yet well-needed good performance vs Hull City.
Sunderland managed a well-battled 1-0 win away at the MKM Stadium against Hull City, courtesy of a controversial yet brilliantly well-taken goal courtesy of Wilson Isidor.
The Black Cats have managed to find themselves at the summit of the table after 10 games of the 2024/25 Championship season and there were many top performers across the pitch that yet again displayed the brilliance within the side.
Notably, Chris Mepham at the back for Regis Le Bris’ side was exceptional and without a doubt deserved his cleansheet, whilst Isidor put in an emphatic showing aside from his goal.
However, there was another brilliant performance for Sunderland, and one which will come as a relief to Le Bris following a period of pressure on the Black Cats star to perform.

Sunderland star Dan Neil silents critics with brilliant performance vs Hull City
Sunderland team captain Dan Neil has been somewhat under the cosh in recent weeks, especially after the away defeat against Watford which saw the Black Cats skipper give away a clumsy foul in the box to concede a penalty which was converted.
Despite the pressure going into this game as a result of recent performances, which looked like it could have made it a difficult afternoon for Neil, he handled it incredibly well and put in a brilliant performance away from home.
The Sunderland skipper has been praised via Sunderland Echo after being handed an 8/10 rating, where they also said: “His best performance of the campaign to date.
“Moved it well in the first half and drove into good areas, with some big switches of play opening up the pitch.
“Then played a key part in the goal by picking the right moment to press and pinch possession. 8.”

Dan Neil must build on brilliant performance vs Hull City
Whether Neil has been sub-par in recent weeks or he has just been overshadowed by the brilliant performances of midfield sensations Chris Rigg and Jobe Bellingham alongside him, he without a doubt put on a show against Hull City and truly showed why Le Bris kept him in the side.
There is no doubt that when the South Shields-born skipper is on his top game, he is crucial in the current Sunderland side, as shown today, and it certainly should be the case that he will comfortably be given more of a run in the side as a result.
Whilst it would be incredibly out of character for Neil to become complacent after such a brilliant performance, he must ensure that he remains focused on topping such a brilliant showing next time out and hopefully turning around his season.
