Regis Le Bris shares strange verdict on Millwall’s late goal vs Sunderland – fans won’t like it

Sunderland fans were left wanting once again on Saturday, watching their side concede yet another late equaliser.

For a second game in a row, and for a fourth game in the Championship this season, Sunderland have dropped two points from a winning position.

Before the break, Coventry City drew 2-2 against Sunderland after coming from two goals behind at the Stadium of Light.

Then at The Den on Saturday, the same happened again. Sunderland fans are fuming at Regis Le Bris after watching his side sit back and let Millwall score an injury time equaliser in the 1-1 draw.

Going into the game, given all of Sunderland’s injuries and suspensions for the match, fans would’ve taken a point.

But to concede so late on, after taking the lead early doors and having had plenty of time to make changes and so on, the draw is proving very tough to accept.

Regis Le Bris says Millwall ‘deserved to score at least one’ vs Sunderland

Speaking to Total Sport after the game, Le Bris was asked about the manner of the draw, and he gave an opinion that many Sunderland fans might not agree with.

Le Bris says that Millwall deserved to score at least once. And whilst that may be true, it defeats the point: many Sunderland fans think Le Bris’ side sit back way too much after scoring, allowing teams to pressurise and eventually score.

The Frenchman said: “The scenario is difficult to digest. But overall, the second half, they deserved to score at least one goal, so it’s not a big surprise.

“But overall the game, I think we deserved that point. Probably, with the scenario, we could’ve won, probably. But football is like that.”

One positive for Regis Le Bris in Sunderland draw at Millwall

There were definitely some positives to take from the game at The Den. For Le Bris though, the major positive might have been seeing Aaron Connolly score his first goal for Sunderland.

Le Bris said on Connolly after the game: “Aaron deserves [this] because he worked a lot. He worked for the team today again and it was a fantastic goal.”

The goal will be a huge confidence-booster for the 24-year-old striker, who had to wait until his seventh Sunderland appearance to get on the score-sheet.

He’s a proven striker at Championship level and offers something a bit different to the likes of Wilson Isidor.

But it doesn’t matter how prolific Connolly and co are: if Le Bris doesn’t fix the issue of losing leads, Sunderland won’t get promoted this season.
