Where Jobe Bellingham would rank in Sunderland’s record player sales if transfer rumours are true

Sunderland star Jobe Bellingham is a man in demand, with Borussia Dortmund being heavily linked ahead of January.

Jobe Bellingham has only been with Sunderland for a season-and-a-half. But throughout 2024 there’s been reports of outside interest in the 19-year-old.

During the summer, it was claimed that Crystal Palace and Tottenham were keen on Bellingham, who scored seven goals in 45 Championship appearances last season.

And after a strong start to this campaign, with two goals in 13 league appearances, Borussia Dortmund are being heavily linked with Bellingham.

Reports claim that Sunderland want £20million for the England U21s star. But where would that amount place Bellingham in the list of Sunderland’s record player sales?

Sunderland’s record player sales, including Jack Clarke to Ipswich Town

Sunderland added a new name to their all-time record player sales during the summer when they sold Jack Clarke.

It was claimed that Ipswich Town paid £18million for Clarke but that the Black Cats only received an initial £13.5million, after Spurs’ sell-on fee was taken out.

The Black Cats’ most expensive player sale remains that of Jordan Pickford, who Everton signed for an initial £25million in 2017.

Darren Bent is a close second following his £24million move from Sunderland to Aston Villa in 2011.

Bellingham would place in third should he leave Sunderland for £20million, with Clarke in fourth at £18million, and Jordan Henderson in fifth following his £16million move to Liverpool back in 2011.

Do Birmingham City have a sell-on fee for Jobe Bellingham?

Sunderland paid a reported £3million for Bellingham in the summer of 2023, and numerous reports have claimed that Blues have a 15% sell-on fee for Bellingham.

That means if Sunderland sell Bellingham for £20million, Birmingham City would be owed £3million.

That’s 5% more than the sell on fee they inserted into Jude Bellingham’s move to Borussia Dortmund back in 2020, though he was obviously sold on for much more than £20million.

Birmingham City then will be keeping a close eye on Bellingham’s situation at Sunderland, and the League One club will be hoping that he’s eventually sold for as much as possible.

But the Sunderland owners have proved in the past that they don’t budge easily when there’s interest in their players.

They only sell for the amount they think is fair, and if this £20million price tag really is the asking price, then Bellingham will only go for £20million.
