Tom Cannon is yet again in transfer headlines. For the last three transfer windows it seems, Cannon has been a person of interest in the Championship, and Sunderland have been one of those interested.
Sunderland fans must be tiring of hearing Tom Cannon‘s name mentioned alongside a move to the Stadium of Light. Or possibly not with the striker yet again in fine form and tipped to potentially move to a top end Championship club in January.
The Black Cats have already bolstered their promotion push with the loan signing of Enzo Le Fee from Roma. But Cannon would cost Sunderland £7million if they want to sign him in January, with Leicester City open to a permanent sale.
Alan Nixon has revealed the latest, saying that Sheffield United could beat Sunderland in the race to sign the 22-year-old with the Blades ready to put £7million on the table right now. So far this season, Irishman Cannon has scored nine in 22 Championship games for the Potters.
Last time out, he even scored at the Stadium of Light as Stoke City beat Sunderland 2-1 in the FA Cup.

Graeme Bailey reveals Tom Cannon to Sunderland latest
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the chances of Sunderland paying £7million for Cannon, in the wake of a deal to sign Le Fee on loan, have been played down. Speaking to Sunderland AFC News, transfer expert Graeme Bailey tells us that the emerging news of Cannon’s £7million price tag is indeed correct.
Bailey says that Leicester City want anywhere between £6.5-7million for Cannon who they shelled out £7.5million for in the summer of 2023. Sunderland simply can’t afford to fork out that much right now, but they are in the market for a new striker, says Bailey.
Lastly, Bailey adds that Sunderland will more than likely target the loan market for a new striker in what’s left of the January transfer window.

Movement in the Sunderland striker department
It’s no surprise to hear that the Black Cats want a new striker, especially after it was revealed that Millwall want to sign Aaron Connolly, with a move looking like it might already be quite advanced.
Then, it was revealed that Trey Ogunsuyi could leave on loan before deadline day. If he and Connolly left, Wilson Isidor would be left as the club’s only out and out striker.
But Cannon doesn’t look as though he’ll be leaving Stoke and moving to Sunderland as things stand. A move to Bramall Lane with Sheffield United seems more likely, and if the Blades put down £7million then the move could go through very soon.
