Sunderland look as though they’re pushing head with transfer matters ahead of the start of the 2024/25 Championship campaign in August.

Sunderland are nearing their opening Championship clash of the 2024/25 season; a trip to Cardiff City on August 10th.

But before then, sporting director Kristjaan Speakman and head coach Regis Le Bris will be hoping to see some new names arrive at the Stadium of Light.

So far this summer, Sunderland have signed just two new players in Simon Moore and Alan Browne.

But it appears as though the Black Cats have a few irons in the fire right now, and here we round up all the latest Sunderland transfer news and rumours…

Alexandre Mendy to Sunderland latest

Sunderland are chasing a deal for Caen striker Alexandre Mendy, who was the top scorer in Ligue 2 last season.

Reports suggest that the 30-year-old has agreed to join Sunderland this summer, but there’s uncertainty over how far down the line the deal is.

Most recently, journalist Michael Graham has suggested that it would be surprising if Sunderland don’t sign Mendy during this summer’s transfer window.

Birmingham City want Sunderland target Jay Stansfield

Sunderland are long-term admirers of Fulham youngster Jay Stansfield, who spent last season on loan at Birmingham City and won the club’s Player of the Season award.

Stansfield scored 12 goals in the Championship and has been tipped to head out on loan again this summer, though Birmingham City could blow the likes of Sunderland out of the water with a £5million offer to buy the 21-year-old.

Sunderland make enquiry for Tottenham Hotspur striker Will Lankshear

Sunderland have made an enquiry to sign striker Will Lankshear on loan from Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

The youngster is highly-rated at Spurs and has just been handed a new five-year contract by the Londoners, though he’s now expected to leave on loan this summer with Sunderland, Hull City, and Wrexham all interested.

Sunderland back in for Daniel Jebbison after Bournemouth loan

Another striker linked with Sunderland in the past is Canadian Daniel Jebbison, who’s recently joined Bournemouth after being released by Sheffield United.

Sunderland AFC News revealed last week that the Black Cats have retained an interest in the 21-year-old and would be interested in a possible loan move this summer.

Sunderland closing in on Blondy Nna Noukeu signing

Lastly, Sunderland are tipped to sign free agent goalkeeper Blondy Nna Noukeu following a successful trial period.

The Cameroonian shot-stopper has been training with Sunderland for a couple of weeks now and was with the club in Spain for their pre-season tour.

It’s reported that the Black Cats are finalising a deal to sign Noukeu on a free transfer.
