Sunderland now ‘finalising a deal’ for their third summer signing

Sunderland are thought to be closing in on their third signing of the summer transfer window.

So far this summer, Sunderland have two new signings through the door, with both being fee agents.

Goalkeeper Simon Moore joined earlier on before Alan Browne signed on, bringing with him a wealth of Championship experience.

Sporting director Kristjaan Speakman may have his work cut out for him this summer following what was a prolonged and arduous four-month search for a new head coach, which ended with the appointment of Regis Le Bris.

Since, Sunderland have been knocked back in their efforts to sign Caen striker Alexandre Mendy, with more reports of potential outgoings then possible arrivals at the Stadium of Light.

The likes of Anthony Patterson, Trai Hume, Jack Clarke, Jobe Bellingham, and Dan Ballard have all been linked with moves away this summer, with Will Still wanting to sign Ballard at RC Lens.

But it now looks as though the Black Cats are closing in on a new signing.

Sunderland ‘finalising a deal’ for Blondy Nna Noukeu

Sunderland look set to further bolster their goalkeeping department after the arrival of Moore and the recent loan exit of Matty Young to Salford City.

Released Stoke City man Blondy Nna Noukeu has recently been on trial with Sunderland, featuring in the 5-0 friendly win over South Shields.

The Cameroonian shot-stopper has travelled to Spain with the Sunderland first-team squad for their pre-season camp, and now it looks like he’s set to sign.

Journalist Michael Graham has revealed on X that Sunderland are ‘finalising a deal’ for the 22-year-old and that he looks set to sign following a successful trial period.

What next for Sunderland in the summer transfer window

Whilst the likely signing of Noukeu is a useful one for Le Bris and the Sunderland goalkeeping ranks, it’s not one that’ll excite fans too much.

Speakman needs to get to work on adding some more Championship experience to a still very useful side, and to finally signing a goal-scoring striker.

It’s been at least three transfer windows now that Speakman has had the chance to sign a prolific no.9, but hasn’t.

He may have been set back in every window, with players either deciding against a move or clubs playing hardball, but it’s been far too long.

Speakman needs to pursue a move for Mendy if that’s the striker he wants, or keep his options open, with the Championship season starting in less than three week’s time.
