Sunderland ‘very keen’ to sign ‘fantastic’ striker who just joined Premier League side

Sunderland are interested in signing a striker who only joined a Premier League club last week.

Sunderland are eager to bolster their attack after an underwhelming 2023-24 campaign saw them score only 52 goals.

The Black Cats brought in Luis Hemir, Eliezer Mayenda, Nazariy Rusyn and Mason Burstow last summer, but the four of them managed only three goals between them.

With Burstow returning to Chelsea and another likely to be sent out on loan, Sunderland are now desperate to add the proven goalscorer that the fans have been crying out for.

Recent reports have claimed that Sunderland have launched a bid to sign Caen striker Alexandre Mendy, who finished last season as the Ligue 2 top scorer with 22 goals.

While the club remain in talks with the French outfit, they have also continued to look a little closer to home in their search.

Sunderland are ‘very keen’ to sign Daniel Jebbison on loan

Sunderland AFC News understands that Kristjaan Speakman and the club’s recruitment staff have been following Daniel Jebbison for some time.

One source claimed that Sunderland are among multiple Championship teams who are ‘very keen’ to sign him on loan this summer, despite his recent move to Bournemouth.

A permanent deal has been ruled out following his arrival at the Vitality Stadium, with the Cherries viewing him as a likely heir to Dominic Solanke.

However, they could consider sending him to the Championship on loan and the Black Cats are one of a number of clubs interested in snapping him up.

Jebbison joined Bournemouth from Sheffield United, having come up through the academy to make his senior debut in 2021.

The attacker scored his first goal the following week and became the youngest player to score in their first start in the Premier League.

Jebbison spent the 2021-22 season on loan at Burton Albion, where he netted seven goals in League One.

He went onto make 16 appearances for the Blades in the Championship, but managed only one appearance following their promotion due to injuries and illness.

Despite that, he earned himself a move to Bournemouth on a free transfer after failing to agree a new contract at Bramall Lane.

Would Bournemouth want to send Jebbison straight back to the Championship?

The Cherries have already signed Enes Unal, while Solanke is one of the first names on the team-sheet.

Jebbison is unlikely to earn himself many minutes and Bournemouth may feel a full season back in the Championship could benefit him in the long run.

The ‘fantastic’ youngster is yet to establish himself as a proven goal-scorer though, so it seems extremely unlikely that he would be a regular in Sunderland’s team at the start of the campaign.

That could well put Bournemouth off from allowing him to move to the Stadium of Light, as they would surely prefer him to be picking up regular starts after featuring for only 20 minutes for the Blades in over a year.
