The Black Cats are reportedly set to ‘prepare their offer’ for an attacking talent.

Sunderland’s quest for a striker signing this season has continued, with the Black Cats still yet to sign an out-right forward as we approach the final hours of the window.

Regis Le Bris’ side have suffered several setbacks within the month, starting off with promotion rivals Sheffield United snapping up both Sunderland attacking targets Tom Cannon and Ben Brereton Diaz.

Sunderland also look to be an outsider in the race to sign Ajax and former Middlesbrough forward Chuba Akpom, who the Black Cats are willing to offer a loan with an option to buy for.

As the Black Cats’ needs for a striker this January continue, another name has been dropped in the mix, one that has previously moved clubs for a £16million fee back in 2018, and was once wanted by Barcelona and Arsenal.

Sunderland set to ‘prepare an offer’ for French forward Willem Geubbels

The Black Cats have identified yet another contender to lead the line for them in the back end of the 2024/25 Championship campaign, and that is Frenchman Willem Geubbels.

The 23-year-old French forward currently plies his trade in the Swiss top division for FC St. Gallen, who have, per Sebastien Denis on X, reportedly knocked back three bids of up to €8million (£6.7million) by several clubs, with relegation threatened Luton Town coming close to their evaluation.

It is also reported that Sunderland and Kristjaan Speakman are set to ‘prepare an offer’ for the attacker, who has 39 Ligue 1 appearances to his name, and has since become a household name in the Swiss divisions, scoring a more-than respectable seven goals in 14 appearances.

Wilson Isidor could be crucial in the Black Cats making strides with Willem Geubbels

Sunderland’s quest to bring in a striker has shown Speakman and the Black Cats to be ambitious, but still unsuccessful with the January deadline looming.

Nonetheless, Sunderland do potentially have an ace up their sleeve surrounding any potential Geubbels deal, and that is Black Cats man Wilson Isidor.

The Frenchman would certainly be important in giving the club a big sell to his fellow National, and he could very much relish the opportunity of playing alongside/ being in competition with the 24-year-old.

Signing Geubbels would certainly be a risk because of his somewhat streaky goalscoring record in recent years, but fans certainly won’t have any doubts of Le Bris getting the best out of his fellow countryman.
