Regis Le Bris has issued an update on potential loan departures over the next week.

Sunderland look set for a very busy end to the transfer window, with the club pushing to sign Roko Simic and Wilson Isidor over the next few days.

They also face losing Jack Clarke, who is the subject of a £15 million bid from Ipswich Town.

The winger seems likely to be the only permanent exit though, with the likes of Dan Ballard, Jobe Bellingham and Chris Rigg already signing new contracts.

Sunderland are likely to send some fringe players out on loan though, with Le Bris previously admitting that they are ‘looking’ for a club for Timothee Pembele.

It was also reported yesterday that Reading are lining up a move for Jewison Bennette, who moved to the Stadium of Light in 2022.

The 20-year-old has struggled for game-time on Wearside, picking up four goal contributions in 21 matches for the Black Cats.

Bennette spent the second half of last season on loan with Greek club Aris, but his time there was ruined by injuries.

Jewison Bennette looks set for League One switch

The winger now looks set for another loan exit, with Le Bris admitting a move to Reading is a real ‘possibility’.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, the head coach said: “The next week will be interesting for all this movement. I think that the players who need to play and find the right solution for their development need to go out on loan. So it’s a possibility for him yes, it’s a possibility for him and other players.”

Reading could be the perfect move for the youngster

Bennette showed some real promise in his first season at the club, but hasn’t really progressed since and has struggled for game-time and fitness.

Sunderland have plenty of talented attacking options now and it seems extremely unlikely that he would be able to force his way back into the team.

His loan spell to Aris was a bit of a disaster, but even if he had stayed fit, it wouldn’t exactly have prepared him for a return to English football.

Joining one of the biggest clubs in League One could be a massive move for him, and if he can play regularly then it should really help him get used to the physicality of the EFL, while it will also help him adapt to living in the country.
