Sunderland look to be finally pushing forward with new striker additions after a difficult summer.

The Black Cats had long been chasing a permanent deal for Caen’s Alexandre Mendy and had reportedly made a fresh bid earlier this week.

However, it has since looked like Sunderland may have turned their attention away from the 30-year-old.

It was claimed this morning that RB Salzburg striker Roko Simic had arrived on Wearside for a medical, while they are also closing in on Zenit attacker Wilson Isidor.

The club’s progress of signing the pair seems to be moving very quickly, with fans trying to not get their hopes up ahead of deadline day.

However, Regis Le Bris has now admitted he is ‘confident’ of snapping up Simic and Isidor.

Le Bris gives update on double striker pursuit

When asked to elaborate on their pursuit of the duo in his pre-match press conference, Le Bris said: “We are working on many profiles and at the minute, we are confident, but it’s not signed and it’s not finished, this option. So we’ll see during the weekend, for sure.

“It’s possible, but you know the transfer window. It’s like having a meeting with someone – we need to match each other and be able to conclude something. So at the moment it’s not finished, but we’ll see.”

Sunderland are now moving very quickly to secure deals for the two strikers, which suggests that they may have given up on signing Mendy.

Sunderland look to be signing two very good footballers

Simic and Isidor have netted over 70 senior goals between them and both have bags of experience, with the former having played Champions League football last season.

While it is unclear where Isidor will play after previously shining as a winger, Le Bris knows him very well and tried to sign him for Lorient, so Sunderland are likely to see him play a key role once the deal goes through.

The pair could well be announced as Sunderland players in time for the clash with Burnley, but it seems more likely that they will feature the following weekend against Portsmouth.

It gives Eliezer Mayenda the opportunity to try and impress once more at the Stadium of Light, as another goal or two will surely mean he keeps his place in the starting line-up for at least another week.
