Tom Cannon has been linked with a move to Wearside after it was revealed that the Leicester City striker was set for a Championship loan move, however it is now likely that the forward will sign for Stoke City on loan.
Despite this, Sunderland have wasted no time in looking to bring in an alternative option after they ‘sent a bid’ for a Genk forward.

Sunderland hold talks with Genk for the signing of Genk forward Ahmed Abdullahi
After a transfer fiasco that appears to have taken up large amounts of Sunderland’s summer window with the endless pursuit of Alexandre Mendy, Sunderland appear to have targeted an alternative attacker.
Per Fabrizio Romano on X, Sunderland have reportedly ‘sent a bid to Gent’ for Nigerian striker Ahmed Abdullahi, with ‘talks ongoing’ to secure the striker.
20-year-old Abdullahi has seven caps for Nigeria U20’s and has mostly applied his trade at youth level.
Senior football has been mainly limited for the youngster, with him being handed just one minute of action so far for the Genk first team.

Will Ahmed Abdullahi be able to provide an immediate impact at Sunderland
Whilst on the surface it seems as if Abdullahi will struggle at first team level after hardly being handed an opportunity, at youth level the striker has been absolutely incredible.
The Nigerian bagged an incredible 21 goals in 28 games for Genk’s youth side, showing that he has the abilities to score in front of goal, something that could be massive for the Black Cats if it translates into first team football.
It would certainly be a risk if he is being brought in as Sunderland’s main striker, however a deal to bring the youngster in as a back-up striker is certainly a shrewd one from the Black Cats, and one which will likely pay dividends in the future.
