Sunderland target Tom Cannon has had a bid accepted of up to £13million.

The Black Cats and Sheffield United are currently undergoing a tug-of-war for Leicester City attacker Tom Cannon.

The Foxes striker was sent on loan to Stoke City, where he thrived, bagging nine goals in the Championship, as well as two against Sunderland in all competitions.

Whilst Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris has remained tight-lipped about their interest in the Englishman, Chris Wilder had confirmed that Sheffield United had lodged a bid for Cannon.

It has now been revealed that Leicester City have reportedly accepted an eight-figure bid for the striker from a Championship side.

Alan Nixon claims Leicester City accept £13million Sheffield United bid for Sunderland target Tom Cannon

Sunderland boss Le Bris is clearly hoping to add an attacker to his squad in the January transfer window, but they may have to look beyond their interest in Cannon after Sheffield United’s recent breakthrough.

The Black Cats’ promotion rivals have reportedly had a £13million bid accepted from Sheffield United, per Alan Nixon on Patreon.

Sheffield United’s eight-figure bid was reportedly favoured to Sunderland’s approach, who offered a loan with an obligation to buy if the Black Cats achieved promotion to the Premier League, a similar approach to the one that helped clinch the services of blockbuster midfield signing Enzo Le Fee, who arrived on Wearside from Italian giants Roma.

Black Cats losing out on Tom Cannon uncovers Kristjaan Speakman silver lining

Losing out to Sheffield United for Cannon will undoubtedly be a blow for Sunderland and Kristjaan Speakman, who will have hoped to hand Le Bris a Championship proven striker to aid the Frenchman in the current fight for promotion to the Premier League.

However, some positives do spring up following the accepted Sheffield United bid, one of which being that Sunderland have certainly not let a bargain slip through their fingers, as a £13million bid is certainly more than substantial.

Another element of silver lining with the deal could be that Sunderland’s ambitions to sign Southampton attacker Ben Brereton Diaz could be strengthened, as Sheffield United were also reportedly interested in a return for the Chilean.

Turning full focus onto signing Brereton Diaz could be crucial, and Sunderland may now have the advantage of financial power in comparison to Sheffield United, who have clearly gone all out for Cannon.
