Sunderland are reportedly interested in signing one of their loan stars on a permanent basis.

Regis Le Bris and Kristjaan Speakman are looking to bolster the current Sunderland squad this January.

They have already succeeded in the bolster midfield signing of Enzo Le Fee, who has already shone on his Sunderland debut against Scott Parker’s Burnley.

Whilst the Black Cats were hoping to add to their tally of players on the frontline, as wished for by Le Bris, they look set to miss out on both Tom Cannon and Ben Brereton Diaz to fellow promotion contenders Sheffield United.

Nonetheless, Sunderland are still looking to improve their attacking options, both in the short and long term. As a result, the future of current loan star Wilson Isidor has been weighed up, with Alan Nixon reporting that the Black Cats have made their mind up on the in-form striker.

Sunderland reportedly want to buy Wilson Isidor after terrific spell on loan

Black Cats striker Isidor has endured a terrific short-term spell on Wearside ever since he joined this summer, with Dan Neil describing him as a ‘massive’ part of the side.

With a total of eight Championship goals, averaging one every three games, Sunderland have reviewed his output and what he offers to the side as sufficient to strike a permanent deal for the 24-year-old Rennes born striker.

According to a report by Alan Nixon, Sunderland are keen to strike a permanent deal with Zenit St Petersburg, but it has been claimed that the asking price may be too high for them.

Nixon also reports that several clubs have been alerted to the form of the Frenchman.

Sunderland fans disagree over terms of Wilson Isidor deal

Whilst Nixon doesn’t suggest that the Black Cats have the luxury to rely on an option to buy, fans certainly believe this to not be the case.

The ambiguity surrounding the deal follows the difference in reporting from both Sunderland and parent club Zenit St Petersburg, but it is believed that the Black Cats do have an option to sign the striker.

Nevertheless, if Sunderland do or do not have a release clause to rely upon, there is no reason why the Black Cats shouldn’t be looking to bring Isidor in for the long term. The Frenchman has provided a guaranteed goalscoring threat and an ability in the final third that Sunderland fans haven’t quite seen from a striker since Ross Stewart.
