Sunderland fans got their first glimpse of new signing Enzo Le Fee in Friday’s game against Burnley. Regis Le Bris decided to throw the Frenchman right in at the deep end, but Le Fee held his own.

It was thought that Enzo Le Fee would make a cameo appearance in the Championship crunch match against Burnley on Friday. Instead, Regis Le Bris decided to name him in his starting XI, and the Roma loan man impressed.

The Frenchman started out on the left in a Sunderland XI that boasted a lot of quality and talent. But it wasn’t the Black Cats’ night with the game ending 0-0, after Wilson Isidor missed two penalties for Sunderland.

Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford was the pantomime villain on the night after he time wasted for both penalties, seemingly getting in the head of Isidor who was visibly upset after the game.

But there were plenty of positions from Friday’s performance with Le Fee’s debut being one of them. Le Bris though has said something about the 24-year-old that Sunderland fans have already said they don’t think is true.

Regis Le Bris thinks Enzo Le Fee’s ‘best position’ is on the left

Le Fee is a central midfielder by trade. Fans were curious to see him on the left side of attack on Friday, and pretty soon into the game, it was clear that Le Fee would’ve been best-served in central midfield.

Sunderland fans all said Le Fee is a central player but Le Bris kept him on the left for the entirety of the game. Then speaking to the Sky Sports cameras after full-time, Le Bris even said that he thinks Le Fee’s best position is on the left.

He said: “It was his first connection with the team and I think he did well, in a position that is probably his best position.”

What else did Regis Le Bris say about Enzo Le Fee’s Sunderland debut?

Speaking in the press room after the game, Le Bris went into more detail about Le Fee’s Sunderland debut.

The Sunderland boss said: “It was a good connection for him. A good game away, in a different position he’s used to playing, and I think he was good. He defended well with Dennis and Jobe on the left side because it was important to be connected to the team in this part of the game.

“With the ball he is very calm so under pressure he can manage the ball very properly. He gave confidence to the team and he could have given one or two key passes, it was possible, but in the end it was a good game for him to start.”

Whether or not his comments about Le Fee’s ‘best position’ were lost in translation remains a possibility. But if Le Bris truly thinks that then it could be worrying for Sunderland fans who could clearly see that Le Fee’s traits are that of a central player.

It could be difficult for Le Bris to now drop one of his central players. Right now, it looks as though Chris Rigg would be the man to make way.
